“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.” (Heb. 12: 5,6)
God promises that we have His favor as part and parcel of our relationship with Him. That favor includes His correction – without condemnation – when we stray from His will. His discipline is a holy experience, because it brings us back to the fruitful, Spirit-led path. God’s kindness brings us to repentance. Walking with a wholesome expectancy of God’s favor is something He encourages us to embrace on our journey with Him.
The discipline of God’s favor will always invite the favor of His discipline.

…”not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance.”
We serve a patient and mighty God.

I’m grateful that God is patient, too. If only I were as patient with myself!

It’s because he loves us. If you read Proverbs much you see how much trouble we can get into if we stray from the path he has for us.

I agree, Jane. I’ve had a few woodshed experiences along the way – many in my marriage – that were difficult to take. But when my love looks more like that of our Heavenly Father, it makes others’ relationship with Him stronger, too.
