Recently Tim and I spotted this bamboo growing near the Willamette River in Portland. Bamboo starts as an underground plant that grows for three to five years before it emerges from the soil. Once it breaks through, it’s the fastest-growing woody plant on the earth!  Bamboo grows ninety feet in sixty days.

Spiritual Parallel:  The time for developing spiritual stature, though it seems to take for-ever, marks maturity in the making.  Be confident that slowly meditating on the goodness of the Holy Spirit’s intents and purposes will be followed by a time of rapid growth.

Okay, folks, I’m about to break out singing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s Me Ol’ Bamboo!

The 45th Parallel is a series which explores spiritual parallels in  everyday sights. I invite you to email a photo you’ve taken and tell how it illustrates overcoming; forgiving; encouraging; or our relationship with God. It may be featured in an upcoming blog post!

What “shoots” you into accelerated spiritual growth more than anything else?
