Oh what a beautiful morning,
Oh what a beautiful day,
I’ve got a wonderful feeling,
Everything’s going my way.
Okay, so that song’s Cheeseville. Why is everything “cheesy” these days? We used to say “corny.” What happened to the corn? But it is one of those days when there’s a bright golden haze on the meadow and the cattle are standing like statues.
You open your mailbox to find a letter from a close friend. She says, “My trip to visit is coming up soon—just wait till you see the surprise I’ve got for you!”
The Starbucks barista, who you often encourage and compliment, pours you your favorite cup of java and says, “It’s on the house!”
You find a twenty dollar bill on your front lawn. Now that’s what I’m talking about.
Standing behind you in line at the post office, a stranger notices your smile and remarks, “There’s something different about you. What makes you so happy?”
A thought passes through your head. For once, I got up on the right side of the bed. (For years when I read, “He got up on the wrong side of bed that morning,” I always thought the character, whose bed must certainly stand against a wall like my own, somehow smushed himself between the mattress and the wall to narrowly escape death as he got moving in the early hours. But I digress.)
Another idea pops into mind. Just dumb luck, I guess. But then a God-thought comes. It’s really the favor of knowing the Lord. It’s the joy of Christ in me.
So, do you bring His name into the conversation? Are you going to cross the chicken line?
The Holy Spirit, who’s within us, is our Source of joy. When we abide in Christ, the words to tell others about Him will tumble out easily. We’ll find ourselves encouraging others to recognize God’s favor, which is already at work within us and can be theirs, too.
I dare you. Give it a go. Share His name with someone you’ve never met.
When you last had a chance to speak up about your faith, did you cross the chicken line?
(Wow. What absolute restraint. I made it through the entire post without one “Why did the chicken cross the road?” joke. If you’ve got a favorite, leave it is as a comment.)
